To celebrate the 10th anniversary of redefining the art of the contemporary perfumery, Kilian created a duo of sumptuous, extravagant, sensual and richly textured fragrances, inspired by the luxury and glamour of “fin de siècle Vienna, and its most subversive artist, Gustav Klimt”: Woman in Gold and Gold Knight.
When talking about the two new perfumes, Kilian Hennessy shared: “I wanted to mark this milestone with something exceptional. Something out of the norm, where I would be able to take inspiration from fine art and translate it into the world of perfume.”
Woman in Gold, created by the French master perfumer Calice Becker, is defined by the same intrigue and bewitching glamour as its inspiration – the 1907 portrait of the leading taste-maker and Viennese art patron, the only woman the Austrian symbolist painted twice, Adele Bloch-Bauer. The mystical scent opens with Bergamot and Mandarin, has Rose and Geranium at a heart, and closes with Tonka Bean and Vanilla.
The autor of Gold Knight, Pascal Gaurin describes the fragrance as “liquid gold melting over a dark sensual armor”. Same as Gold Woman, this addictive scent opens with Bergamot, the French perfumer, who took the inspiration from “the dashing, golden-armored chevalier in Klimt’s 1902 Beethoven Frieze”, layered with Anise. The heart and long-lasting notes include Cinnamon & Honey, and Patchouli & Vanilla respectively.
Both fragrances come in a sleek and elegant glass bottle with the brand’s signature engraved gold-tone plaque, inside an impressive collector’s edition coffret, Kilian’s homage to the masterful use of gold leaf and unmistakable style of one of the world’s most expensive painters of all time.
